Les Coteaux
AOC Côtes de Bordeaux
The Story
From the Gironde estuary to the border with the Dordogne, passing by the banks of the Garonne, the Côtes de Bordeaux impress with the diversity of its landscape and its rich heritage. Historic châteaux, manor houses, fortresses and splendid homes, immortalized by famous artists, are evidence of the rich history of the region. Villages retaining their narrow streets and fortified towns and windmills are signs of a centuries old tradition of agricultural and trading activity.
The “Côtes de Bordeaux” bring together the terroirs of Blaye, Cadillac, Castillon and Francs. This new appellation (2009) has allowed a better understanding of the products thanks to the use of a common family name “Côtes de Bordeaux” along with the name of the terroir “Blaye, Cadillac, Castillon or Francs”, thus enhancing the personality and typical character of each wine. This takes the blending tradition a step further as it allows producers to blend wines from different areas within Bordeaux giving greater flexibility to make consistent high quality wines.
The wine
The varieties involved here are the traditional Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. Cabernet Sauvignon brings elegance, depth and structure along with its hallmarks blackcurrant/cassis flavours and the Merlot soft, ripe summer fruits. Put a little in a big glass and swill it around…. All the flavors are there !
Food Pairing
This is a food wine, and the perfect pairing is with roast beef with all the trimmings but it is equally good with all roast meats and full flavored stews.
